Apps to Help Keep Me Organized

Here are a few Apps that I love using in the classroom to help keep me organized.

1 - Google Keep





 You can get Google Keep on your tablet and on your computer.  Here is a screen shot from my computer.  


All the notes sync up so I can get them anytime I want from any one of my devices.

2 - S Note for Samsung





When I want to take notes at a staff meeting, a parent meeting or notes on a specific student, I use the S Note for Samsung.  Each of my notes are organized for me and I can add to them anytime.  

 3 - Google Calendar


What I love about Google Calendar is that I don't have to have just one calendar, I can have many calendars for different things such as a class calendar, a personal calendar and a school calendar.  I can add tasks to the calendars and events with reminders.  If you are using Google Apps for Education then you can make appointment slots which are perfect for parent-teacher conferences.  

4 - Remind


Remind is a saviour when it comes to communicating quickly with parents in my class about field trips, when library books are due or anything that parents may need a "reminder" about.  I can send a remind to the whole class or to just one parent if needed.  I LOVE THIS APP.

Plant Journal Revisted with a New Addition Bean Greenhouse Activity

Hello,  I cannot believe I uploaded my plant journal in 2012!!!  I have been using this plant journal with my students for 12 years!!! My students still get excited when they get their journal and investigate their plant growth.   For the past two years I have started the Bean Greenhouses where my students put a few beans in wet cotton balls, place them in a ziploc and we put them on the window and watch them grow.  This year I have created a quick journal for my students to observe their observations.  I always give 3 beans to each student because the ziploc is rather small for any more.  This year my students will be able to get their Bean Greenhouse journal, put down what day it is of growing and then colour in what stage they see their beans. Blank Game Boards

Every year, no matter what grade level I am teaching, I end the year with the students making a game they can play at school and then take it home to play with their family.   And every year it seems I am scrambling to put the materials together for the students.   I have found the younger students really need something concrete they can use.   I came up with these pre-made template.   I made templates without spinners, with different types of spinners and with places for cards.   I have all the templates in a binder in clear plastic protectors and I get the students to pick which template they want the day before we do the activity so I can have the templates ready for the kids.   I also have pre-made squares with various game standards such as “Miss a turn” and Go back 2 spaces” the kids can cut out and glue on the squares they want.   There are also blank squares they can print on to customize their game.   I also give the students a template ...

Teacher Week 2013 Classroom Management

Hi everyone,  I have to say, I'm really enjoying this Teacher Week 2013. It's my first time participating in something like this.  Now on to classroom management. All schools in the Halifax Regional School Board uses Positive Effective Behaviour Supports (PEBS).  This is a school-wide system of support that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviours.  It looks at what our students can do and are doing rather than what they shouldn't do and how we as adults interact with them.  Each student receives a PEBS matrix (a gird) to take home and review with their parents and a PEBS matrix is up in every classroom and teachers routinely refer to the PEBS matrix.
