For September 2015 we have a new streamlined curriculum that will be in place.  For me, I needed to get my head around how the new language arts outcomes compared with the old language arts outcomes.  What I decided to do was to make some comparison charts.  I have posted those on my teacher website at http://hrsbstaff.ednet.ns.ca/keflynn/Teacher%20Language%20Resources.html I have done Grade Primary and one of the charts for Grade 1.  I do intend to do Grade 2 and Grade 3.  I will post those when I am finished.   Enjoy! When I create something for me to use in the classroom, I usually end up revamping it after a year or so as there are always little things that either bothered me about it or just didn't work for me.  This past year was no different in that I am always trying to make my job a little more efficient with everyday teacher tasks/duties.  One thing I'm really trying to become more efficient with is my data collection and assessment binders with the notes/data I collect on my students and for it to be easy to use.  So I made a few new forms/recording sheets this year that I used in the classroom and have now made some minor adjustments to those and have added them to my MUST Have Teacher Forms in my TPT store. I have talked about how I changed schools last year but my new school was still a duel track school with both the English and French Immersion stream.  My new next door neighbour was one of the Grade 1 French Immersion teachers and I helped her start to use the Mimio in her classroom.  She loved the math calendar I created for the mimio and asked me if I could do one for her class but in French.  I did  and she helped me with some of the phrases I needed such as "Yesterday was", "Today is", etc.  So I just finished making my mimio math calendars for next year and have put those in my TPT store, I have now finished the French version of the math calendars.   You can find the French Monthly Math Calendar for Mimio (Canadian) in my TPT store at the following link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/FRENCH-Monthly-Math-Calendar-for-Mimio-Canadian-1982341 Enjoy! I had purchased my own mimio about 2 years ago on ebay for a great price.  It’s one of the older models but still works the same way as the newer ones it just doesn’t look as pretty.  I wasn’t able to use it as my old classroom didn’t have an LCD that was mounted and the students got really frustrated trying to use it with all the shadows that were happening so I put it away.  This year I moved to a new school and new classroom and an LCD was mounted!!!!  I started using the mimio slowly as I started to learn how to do things on it.  For my math routine, I had purchased a lovely math calendar that the students loved using and that we always did a pattern on.   I wanted to try to have the same type of calendar that the students were used to put up on the mimio.   I was able to take advantage of creating new date cards so that every month had a pattern on them and I noticed by the time I got to the pattern unit in math, my students were awesome at patterning because we had b

Every year I try to get my literacy centers to be a little more efficient so that the students can really become independent with them.  With the move to a new school and new classroom, I again tried to make the process of centers more efficient.  Now my classroom came with this lovely shelving unit... With plenty of counter space (of course the picture below was from me setting up the classroom). I also had this lovely cart from Michael's that had 6 drawers on one side that would be perfect to hold each groups center booklets (I will post better pictures once I get  back into the classroom mid August).  I labelled each drawer with the Group number and little pictures of the students so they knew it was their drawer. So looking at the counter space I had and the drawers, I realized I could put the drawers out on top of the counter space so the students could easily get their center booklets and start work right away.  This worked out really well.  The kids kne

For September 2015, teachers in grades P-3 will be implementing a new streamlined curriculum where many of the outcomes have been integrated into math and language arts so our main focus in the classroom is math and language arts with our students.  I have always wanted to create I Can posters for our old outcomes but never got around to it.  Well, I finally took the time to work on the I Can posters for September using the new streamlined curriculum.  I have Grade Primary done in three different themes and I will be working on Grades 1, 2 and 3 and have those ready before the summer ends.   My I Can package includes: - I Can posters with no borders for:                - Math outcomes                - New Language Arts outcomes                - New Science, Social Studies, Health and Visual Arts outcomes - I Can posters with a fun border for: - Math outcomes                - New Language Arts outcomes                - New Science, Social Studies, Health and Visual
