Spelling Activity

Image
My students love spelling on the magnetic white board with the foam letters.  They know that the blue letters are consonants and the red letters are vowels and the purple “y” can be a consonant or a vowel.  I wanted to create a book buddy spelling activity on the Chromebooks that used letters that looked like our magnetic letters the kids use.  You can find this activity in my TPT store at the following link: Let's Spell: Building Words with Letters Enjoy! It Begins with Phonic Mats using Google Slides

Image
I wanted to create a phonics sorting activity that was paperless.  So I created the mat backgrounds that don’t move and then found developmental sequence for speech sounds for early, mid and late emerging speech sounds.  I created the blank slides first and then populated the slides with 4 -6 pictures of each comparing sound.  Each slide compares 2 speech sounds.  I have my students say the picture name out loud and try to hear that first sound and then move that picture under the correct letter. I created this activity to do with my bookbuddies but as I discovered my students wanted to do it outside of the bookbuddies so I would assign a few slides on my Google classroom each tech/center time. You can find this activity in my TPT store at the following link: It Begins with Phonic Mats Enjoy! Kemble :-)

Santa Phonics Fun

Image
Christmas time is so busy in the classroom and the kids get so distracted at this time of year.  So I knew I had to create some new centers that would align with my outcomes but would be fun for the kids too.  So next week the kids will be doing Santa Phonics Fun during literacy centers.  Here are a few pictures of what is needed: So I have printed out my Santa pictures and grabbed some craft sticks.  I printed out letter labels to put them on the bottom of the craft sticks.  I have also used Velcro to attach the pictures so I can switch the pictures out. I like using the flora foam that you can get at the dollar store but you could also use a container of beans or rice and place the stick down to cover the letter and then decide if the students will be listening for the beginning sound, middle sound or ending sound. This package is available in my TPT store at the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Santa-Phonics-Fun or in my TeachersN

Making Words Mat for File Folders

Image
I LOVE finding a use for file folders so the students can take the activity to their desks.  So I created these making words file folders for each student.  I can use them in group lesson or a whole class lesson.  The students are able to use them during free time too.  I print out the letters on card stock and laminate.  I put little squares of Velcro on the back of each letter.  I print out the two making words sheets on whole page labels so I can just peel and stick on the file folder.   I do laminate each file folder so they will last.  I then put Velcro in each of the blank squares.  On the other side of the file folder I place strips of Velcro where the letters will be placed for the kids to be able to see.  Here are a few pictures: You can find my Making Word Mat for File Folders in my TPT store at the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Making-Words-Mat-for-File-Folder or in my TeachersNotebook shop at the following lin
