Teacher Week 2013 Teacher Tips

Image
Well, this is the last day of Teacher Week 2013 and it has been so much fun participating and reading all the blog entries.   I just signed up for Reminde101 and just sent an e-mail to some other teachers about it.  I am so excited to try it out this year as one way to communicate with my parents.  Thanks for the tip!!  Here are some of my tips.. Snow Suits and Recess One teacher tip I have is for teachers who teach where it snows and with little ones.  Recess was always a struggle.  Some of the little ones devour their food, others are the slowest eaters and then they have to put on their snow suits.  By the time, I finished helping the last student get ready for outside, there was about 2 minutes left of recess.  One day I finally had enough and asked the kids to go to the washroom first, then put their boots and snow pants on and then eat their snacks.  The kids never mind sitting with their boots and snow pants on because by the time it is recess, their boots and snow pants a

Teacher Week 2013 Classroom Management

Hi everyone,  I have to say, I'm really enjoying this Teacher Week 2013. It's my first time participating in something like this.  Now on to classroom management. All schools in the Halifax Regional School Board uses Positive Effective Behaviour Supports (PEBS).  This is a school-wide system of support that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviours.  It looks at what our students can do and are doing rather than what they shouldn't do and how we as adults interact with them.  Each student receives a PEBS matrix (a gird) to take home and review with their parents and a PEBS matrix is up in every classroom and teachers routinely refer to the PEBS matrix. We also use Gems with the whole school.  Gems are awarded to students who demonstrate positive behaviours as outlined in the PEBS matrix.  Each class has their own jar into which students deposit gems as they receive them.  Each class decides on a class goal

Teacher Week 2013 Organizing for Instruction

I am sorry that I don't have a lot of pictures as I am still on summer vacation and I am awaiting the word when I can get back into my classroom to set up.  I will be taking lots of pictures so I will post them when I have those.  Here are a few things I do and have to help get me organized.   At the end of the past year, I organized my file cabinet but forgot to take pictures, so look for new pictures in about 2 weeks.  I would like to organize my art supplies in my room too before school starts.  Does the to do list ever end with teachers? Enjoy! Kemble :-)

Well, I have 2 more weeks of my summer vacation and hopefully I will be able to get back into my school sometime next week or the week after but as of right now the school is closed to us so unfortunately I don't have any new pictures to show you.  I do have some pictures I took last year that I can share again and some pictures of things I have in the classroom.   When I head back into the classroom, I will take pics and post them. Enjoy! Kemble :-)

Teacher Week 2013 Meet the Teacher

I'm really excited to be linking up to Teacher Week at Blog Hoppin'.  Today is Let's Talk About Me!!! Well, my name is Kemble Flynn and I have been teaching for the past 14 years.  Deep down I probably knew I wanted to be a teacher but my journey to become one was very different.  My father is an accountant so growing up I always said I wanted to be an accountant too.  So off I went to Acadia University 1st year business and actually took an accounting course and knew this was not for me.  It took me another 2 years to figure out that what I really loved was physical education because I played everything growing up and was on all my junior high sport teams, high school volleyball and badminton team.  Around this time, Acadia offered a new program, Leisure and Sport Management and I transferred over with my business courses.  However, as this degree was almost finishing, I was still a little confused about what I wanted to do.  I remember seeing a poster for the Univers
