Pre-Primer Sight Word Scrambled PowerPoint & Google Slides

Image
I realize I am slow on the ball when it comes to creating activities that incorporate technology such as powerpoints or google slides in my classroom.  However, when I create activities I take my time and really think how a specific activity would be useful in my classroom.   My students love trying to figure out scrambled sight words so that's what I have chosen to create for my centres this upcoming year but committing to trying to use less paper in my classroom.  I can do this by creating PowerPoints and/or Google slides with the scrambled words for the students to look at and just have recording sheets.   So I have created a new Pre-Primer Sight Word Scrambled PowerPoint & Google slides Activity.   You can find this activity in my TPT store at the following link: Pre-Primer Sight Word Scrambled PowerPoint & Google Slides Activity I will be making the same activities for Primer, Gr. 1 and Gr. 2 Dolch list.  Thos

My Literacy Centers this year

Image
Every year I try to get my literacy centers to be a little more efficient so that the students can really become independent with them.  With the move to a new school and new classroom, I again tried to make the process of centers more efficient.  Now my classroom came with this lovely shelving unit... With plenty of counter space (of course the picture below was from me setting up the classroom). I also had this lovely cart from Michael's that had 6 drawers on one side that would be perfect to hold each groups center booklets (I will post better pictures once I get  back into the classroom mid August).  I labelled each drawer with the Group number and little pictures of the students so they knew it was their drawer. So looking at the counter space I had and the drawers, I realized I could put the drawers out on top of the counter space so the students could easily get their center booklets and start work right away.  This worked out really well.  The kids kne

Rainbow Writing

Over the break I read a great book...The Next Step in Guided Reading by Jan Richardson. This book was so easy to read and really takes you through the guided reading process for all levels of students.  One idea that I know other teachers know about is rainbow writing. That got me to thinking on how I get my students to do rainbow writing.  So I revamped my rainbow writing activity so I could make booklets for my students to have during literacy centers.   1 – Full Booklet with 2 different sight words per page 2 – Half Booklet with one sight word per page (to save paper) 3 – Full Booklet with 2 different traceable sight words per page 4 -  Full Booklet with 4 different sight words per page 5 – Half Booklet with one traceable sight word per page (to save paper) 6 – Traceable sight word cards (2 per page) which can be double-sided and laminated You can find the products in my TPT store at the following links: http://www.teacherspayt

More Sight Word Activities

Image
I wanted to create some more sight word activities that my students could do during centers.  Primary students love challenges and trying to unscramble words is a big challenge in primary.  So the first center will be the kids trying to unscramble the sight words. Unscramble the Sight Word: The words are divided up like they are in my Weekly Sight Word package. I have gone through the Dolch words and tried to put them together in a way that would make sense to the kids and helpful at the same time with their reading and writing.  The Pre-primer and Primer list divided evenly into 4 words per week.  The Grade One list I had to make 8 lists with 4 words and 3 lists with 3 words.  The Grade Two list I had to make 10 lists with 4 words and 2 lists with 3 words.   This activity includes: -        Posters with sight words on them with fun borders -        3 recording sheets you can choose from -        Blank recording sheet -        Recording sheet with numbers -

Busy over Christmas Break - Sight Words

Image
I know Christmas break should be all about relaxing but I think any teacher starts to think about the new year and what other activities you will be doing with your students.  My students are really growing in their reading and word recognition so I decided to make a few sight word activities.   The first one is connect 4 boards .  I took the dolch lists from Kindergarten to Grade 2 and mixed up the words for each game board.  I have tried to teach the kids with my connect 4 boards to take your turns quickly as you say the word quickly so it helps with fluency too.  I double side my boards and laminate.  The second activity is sight word flip booklets.  The idea is like connect 4 but instead the students roll a die, find that number, say the word and colour in that spot.  The first student to colour their whole card, wins.  I created sheets that have the same words on each grid and sheets that have grids with different words.  You can put the sheets in any order you want.
