Snakes and Ladders Sight Word Games

Image
My students love playing games.  This year I created these Snake and Ladder games for their centre time.  I kept the laminated games in a drawer and the kids would go get the board they needed and the counters and die and play with their centre mates.   I  created 2 different sets of Snakes and Ladders game boards.   1 - I have broken up the Dolch list into sets of 3 or 4 words that I introduce per week.   I have created individual Snakes and Ladders game boards for each set of those Dolch words.   2 - I have also grouped the Dolch words into either groups of six or eight and have done 2 boards with each sets of words in different orders on each board.   You can find these games in my TPT store at the following link: Snakes and Ladders PrePrimer Dolch Words Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Snakes-and-Ladders-PrePrimer-Dolch-Words-2651370 Snakes and Ladders Primer Dolch Words Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Snak

Mimio Scrambled Sight Word Puzzles

Image
I started to do sight word puzzles in January with my students every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during our morning meeting.  My students would bring a white board, marker and eraser down to our meeting area and would record their answers on the white board.  The first set of puzzles I did were to scramble the sight words I had already introduced.  I scrambled six sight words for Monday, six for Wednesday and six for Friday.  I would show the scrambled word and give the students a few minutes to try to figure out what sight word it was.  They would then write their “guess” on their recording sheet and then I would show them the answer to see if they got it right.  I would then move on to the next word  and do the same thing for the next five words.  I would give students some hints if I saw them struggling or point out some letter patters (ie., if you see to ee’s they may go together).  The students really looked forward to the puzzles and loved the challenge.  Once we have done the s

Daily Sight Word Work with Mimio and PowerPoint

Last year I started using my Mimio Bar in my classroom all the time and it totally changed my teaching and the excitement in my students.  One of my favourite things I did last year and continued this year was my weekly sight word work in my morning meeting.  When my students come in first thing in the morning, their Morning Calendar duotang is on their desk and they have to colour in the day and weather.  Then they come down to the meeting area for our morning meeting.  My morning meeting consists of one student being allowed to sit on the bench and invite another student to be on the bench with them, 2 students share news with the class, we read the morning message I have written to the students, we do 2 poems weekly and weekly sight word work.   I introduce 4 new sight words per week and work on those words all week with different activities including this mimio activity.  Because the students have been sitting for a bit for the morning meeting, when we get to the word work, they

Word Wall Dilemma

So for the past few days I have been working on making a new word wall for my new classroom.  The problem is that I love making the backgrounds so I have so many to choose from that I'm not sure which one I am going to pick (I do feel I am leaning towards the pastel polka dots).  Here is a look at what I have created.  Here is the pastel word wall package that I'm leaning towards as I like how bright it is. Once I decide what background I want for my classroom, I then need to decide which circle or rectangle I want for my headers and then I can print out the words that match it.   I have put both of these word wall themes in my TPT store which you can find at the following links: PinkGrayWhite Dot theme at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/PinkGrayWhiteDots-Word-Wall-Package-Pre-Primer-to-Grade-3-Dolch-Words-1323555 and the Pastel Dot theme at http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/P
