My Number Monster Book Numbers 1 to 10 Google Slides for Online Learning

Image
My students love doing this booklet on paper.  But when we had to go to online learning, I wanted to try to recreate this as much as I could.  My students draw their number monster on paper but also did one on Google Slides. When I introduce a number, my students do a number monster to that number.   For example, if I have introduced the number 2, their number 2 monster has to have 2 eyes, 2 noses, 2 mouths, 2 ears, 2 arms and 2 legs.   By the end of the year, they will have number monsters from 1 to 10. I have created number monster slides for the numbers 1 to 10.  I have created 3 sets: black and white monsters, coloured in monsters and faux fur coloured in monsters.  You can pick which ones you will assign.  I have also included slides with different eyes, mouths, noses, ears, arms and legs. I have included some on the slides but if you want to put different ones you can. You can find this package in my TPT shop at the following link: My Number Monster Book Numbers 1 to 10 E

Ultimate Dot Paper Plate Collection

Image
As I said in an earlier post, anyone who teaches grade Primary to Grade Three in Nova Scotia will be executing a new math curriculum.  And one of the big ideas is subitizing which is the ability to recognize at a glance a quantity of objects without counting.  Dot paper plates are always used but I find they take up so much space.  So I wanted to create something that didn't really take up that much space and that I could laminate (which I love doing) so it would last and be protected especially in a primary classroom.  This is just like my new five frame paper plate product but this product has various dot arrangements on a picture of a paper plate.   This product has various dot combinations of the numbers 1 – 5 on a picture of a paper plate which you can print on cardstock and laminate.  I like to print the dot paper plates on both sides of the cardstock to save paper and be more efficient.  I came up with the following dot plate combinatio

French Immersion Ordinal Board Games

Image
Again and again my french immersion teacher counterparts in primary are constantly telling me they struggle to find resources they can use in their classroom.  So I am on a mission that if I have created something for my classroom, I will also create it for them to use in their classroom.  So here are my ordinal games but for a french immersion classroom. You can find the French Immersion Ordinal Board Games in my TPT store at the following link:   http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/French-Immersion-Ordinal-Board-Games Enjoy! Kemble :-)

Math Christmas Fun

So I also have Christmas math centers ready for next week that are available in my TPT store.  The following centers included in the package are: - Zero Wins board game (colour & black and white boards) - Christmas Patterning (colour & black and white) - Roll, Count and Cover (or Colour) game (colour & black and white) - Christmas Picture Match (colour & black and white) - Match the Snowflake - Number and Christmas Picture Match (colour & black and white) - Roll or Spin a Snowman (colour & black and white) - Candy and Snowman board game (colour & black and white boards) and spinners - Number Place mats - I Have Who Has (colour & black and white) can be played between 17-30 players For some of the games, you will need some Christmas erasers.  I got my erasers at the dollar store.  You can find this package at the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-Christmas-Fun or in my Teachers

Halloween Fun

Image
Halloween is coming up and the students get so excited for it!!  This is when I love doing little Halloween games that are fun and the students can play over and over.  I use erasers and plastic spiders from the Dollar Store.  Here are some of the games we like to play in my class: Zero Wins Player A takes 10 pumpkin erasers and places them on the pumpkin and Player B takes 10 ghost erasers and places them on the ghost. Each player, in turn, spins the spinner and does what it says.  For example, if Player A spins “get 2”, Player A must take 2 ghost erasers and put them with their pumpkin erasers.  If Player B spins “lose 3”, Player B gives 3 of the ghost erasers to Player A.  The first player to end up with zero erasers wins. Spider's Web Taking turns, each player flicks the paper clip on the spinner and whatever number the paper clip lands on, the player takes that many spiders off the spider web.  Once all the spiders are off the web, each player counts h

Thanksgiving Day Math Game

Image
Last year for Thanksgiving, I wanted a game that the kids could easily play and have fun.  So I bought a big styrofoam ball and a bag of feathers from Dollarama and printed out a picture of a turkey.  I taped the turkey on the front and stuck the feathers in.  The students had to take turns rolling a die and take that amount of feathers out of the turkey.  Once all the feathers were gone, the students had to count how many feathers they each had and the student with the most feathers won.  Then the students placed the feathers back into the turkey and played again.   So this year, I decided to take this idea one step further and created feathers (which I laminated) with numbers and pictures of either one die or two dice.  And the game pretty much stays the same in that kids take turns rolling either one die or two dice and either take that amount of feathers or take the feather with that number/die/dice on it.  I hot glue gunned Q-tips on the back of each feather so they would

Number Sense Fans

Image
Last March I created my Geometry fans that would be an assessment tool for me and just geometry fun for the kids.  My students LOVED using the fans with each other and at math centers.  So this year I have come up with number sense fans with a variety of numbers, dice and base 10 materials on each fan.  I am very excited to use this resource all year in my classroom.  I created small and bigger fans this year too.   This resource has been developed as a teaching tool and resource you and your students can use together or separately. These fans would be a great way to build number sense and operation sense with your students.  Students can use these fans as a reference when working on their math or at centres or with a partner. The fans are a great assessment tool for the teacher to quickly assess each student’s knowledge of number sense or operation sense. They are aligned with the Atlantic Canada Mathematics Curriculum outcomes. Included: - Small Individual Dice Fans

Math Flip books for Slides, Turns and Flips

Image
Here are some flip books I created at the end of last year for my geometry unit.  These flip books can be used in small groups, whole class, guided math, or even math stations.  There is one book for Slides and Flips using two-colour counters (16 pages).  The second book is for slides, flips and turns with different shapes and letters (37 pages).  You just need to photocopy, cut and staple.   These books are aligned with the following Atlantic Canada Mathematics Curriculum outcomes: Primary - E8 make transformations of figures and shapes Grade 1 - E9 recognize, name, describe, and represent slides and reflections of 2-D shapes Grade 2 -  E11 recognize, identify, describe, and represent reflective symmetry in 2-D shapes Here are a few pictures of the books and pages: You can find these flip books in my TPT store with the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-Flip-Book-for-Slides-Turns-and-Flips OR in my TeachersN

Addition and Subtraction Flip Books

Image
I am always looking for activities to add to my math tubs/centers and I find flip books work really well. I have created nine flip books: 4 addition flip books, 4 subtraction flip books and 1 addition/subtraction flip book.  I have created books with both words and symbols.  The following describes each book: Flip Books Two-sided Counters Addition – Give the students 10 two-sided counters in a cup.  Have the students first predict how many yellow and how many red will appear once they spill the counters.  The kids always need to predict first.  Then have them shake the cup and spill the counters.  They colour in their results and write the addition sentence. Unifix Cubes Addition – Give the students 2 towers of six unifix cubes and one die.  Have the students roll the die once and colour that many unifix in the flip book (they can show on one of their towers too).  Then have them roll a second time and colour in that many unifix in the flip book (they can show that roll on th
