Spelling Activity

Image
My students love spelling on the magnetic white board with the foam letters.  They know that the blue letters are consonants and the red letters are vowels and the purple “y” can be a consonant or a vowel.  I wanted to create a book buddy spelling activity on the Chromebooks that used letters that looked like our magnetic letters the kids use.  You can find this activity in my TPT store at the following link: Let's Spell: Building Words with Letters Enjoy! How To Sequence Writing

Image
I used to dread doing the How to Sequencing writing unit.  It just seemed really hard for the students to grasp.  This year I decided to really focus on creating booklets that would help my students.  I know it’s good for students to draw the pictures but I decided to put the pictures in for them so they could focus on the writing.  And I also did the unit later in the year when my students had more writing experience.  So I came up with these booklets and this was the first time I enjoyed the unit and my students looked forward to the writing that day.  You can find this activity in my TPT store at the following link: How To Sequencing Booklets Enjoy! Letter Recognition and Sound Assessment Google Forms

Image
I am all about Google forms!!!  I used to do my letter assessments with paper but once I discovered Google forms, I rethought all my paper assessments within the classroom and once I figured out how to insert images into Google forms (very easy by the way), I created a Google form for my letter assessments and I was blown away at the ease of the assessment process.  I sue a Samsung Tab A with an S-Pen in my classroom and my students thought it was really cool to see the letters on the tablet.  The benefit of using Google forms is that all the data I am collecting on my students goes straight into a Google sheet which allows me to show my data in various ways such as pie charts or bar graphs.  AND it allows me to save on paper!!! I have put these assessments into a package for my TPT store and Teachery shop.  Below give you a little look into the package. I cannot say enough about Google forms and how it has transformed my assessment within my classr

End of Unit Assessment for GrPrimary Nova Scotia Math Google Forms

Image
Last summer I became a Google Certified Level 1 Educator and was amazed at all the things I learned about Google Apps and I fell in LOVE with Google Forms and what it could do with my assessment in the classroom.   The past year I started putting my math assessments into Google Forms in order to use less paper but what I realized was that Google Forms allowed me to assess more students in a shorter time which was amazing. The tasks are based on the performance indicators for the Nova Scotia curriculum.  I use a Samsung Tab A in my classroom solely for my GAFE.  I only do school work on this tablet.  The Samsung Tab A has an S-Pen so I can actually write too.  However, a ny tablet that you can access your Google Drive which then you can use the Google Forms to assess your students.   I do advise you to get a stylus for the tablet you are using as the Google Form allows you to write in certain sections.     Here are a few pictures that show you what the forms are like.

Updated Mimio Math Calendars for 2016-2017

Image
I have updated my Mimio calendars for the upcoming school year.  I LOVED using this math calendar this past year as did my students.  I actually had a math calendar teacher who would get up and change everything on the mimio calendar and then lead the rest of the students in the calendar routine.  The kids loved it.  I then had a different student do the math pattern for that day.  I have added a new slide for the Days in School which has ten frames on it too. I am excited to see how my new little ones will take to the ten frames being added.   Monthly Math Calendar for Mimio (American) REVISED 2016-2017 Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Monthly-Math-Calendar-for-Mimio-American-REVISED-2016-2017-1980227 Monthly Math Calendar for Mimio (Canadian) REVISED 2016-2017 https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Monthly-Math-Calendar-for-Mimio-Canadian-REVISED-2016-2017-1980211 Enjoy! Snakes and Ladders Sight Word Games

Image
My students love playing games.  This year I created these Snake and Ladder games for their centre time.  I kept the laminated games in a drawer and the kids would go get the board they needed and the counters and die and play with their centre mates.   I  created 2 different sets of Snakes and Ladders game boards.   1 - I have broken up the Dolch list into sets of 3 or 4 words that I introduce per week.   I have created individual Snakes and Ladders game boards for each set of those Dolch words.   2 - I have also grouped the Dolch words into either groups of six or eight and have done 2 boards with each sets of words in different orders on each board.   You can find these games in my TPT store at the following link: Snakes and Ladders PrePrimer Dolch Words Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Snakes-and-Ladders-PrePrimer-Dolch-Words-2651370 Snakes and Ladders Primer Dolch Words Link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Snak

Mimio Scrambled Sight Word Puzzles

Image
I started to do sight word puzzles in January with my students every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during our morning meeting.  My students would bring a white board, marker and eraser down to our meeting area and would record their answers on the white board.  The first set of puzzles I did were to scramble the sight words I had already introduced.  I scrambled six sight words for Monday, six for Wednesday and six for Friday.  I would show the scrambled word and give the students a few minutes to try to figure out what sight word it was.  They would then write their “guess” on their recording sheet and then I would show them the answer to see if they got it right.  I would then move on to the next word  and do the same thing for the next five words.  I would give students some hints if I saw them struggling or point out some letter patters (ie., if you see to ee’s they may go together).  The students really looked forward to the puzzles and loved the challenge.  Once we have done the s
