I LOVE finding a use for file folders so the students can take the activity to their desks.  So I created these making words file folders for each student.  I can use them in group lesson or a whole class lesson.  The students are able to use them during free time too.  I print out the letters on card stock and laminate.  I put little squares of Velcro on the back of each letter.  I print out the two making words sheets on whole page labels so I can just peel and stick on the file folder.   I do laminate each file folder so they will last.  I then put Velcro in each of the blank squares.  On the other side of the file folder I place strips of Velcro where the letters will be placed for the kids to be able to see.  Here are a few pictures: You can find my Making Word Mat for File Folders in my TPT store at the following link: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Making-Words-Mat-for-File-Folder ...

I have always struggled to keep my art samples that I show my students in one place.  So this summer I saw these plastic folders at the dollar store.  Anything I see at the dollar store I am always thinking "How can I use this in my classroom?"  Aha moment...my art samples.  Here are a few pictures of the folders. As you can see from the pictures below there are sections in each folder.   I know my labels aren't pretty but it works right now as I will be adding to my folders all this year and then at the end of the year I can make pretty labels.   I put my larger art samples above these folders in my shelf. I know all of us strive to do a better job at organizing ourselves.  I feel I am getting better a little bit every year.  And when I think I have something that helped me stay organized, I always try to find a way to improve it or revise it.  So I have revised and added to my Must Have Teacher Forms for my classroom.   With some of my forms, I put together 2 books that I always carry back and forth from home and school.  I used plastic dividers from the dollar store to divide the sections and then bound the 2 books.  This first one has 4 different sections: my to do list of things I need to do or finish, my students information, my outcome checklists and a record of my photocopying.   My second book also has 4 different sections: my Parent Communication log sheets, my record of notes sent home, students I have spoken to and the reason and my student observations.  As you notice, for my cover, I forgot to put the title Students Spoken...

Halloween is coming up and the students get so excited for it!!  This is when I love doing little Halloween games that are fun and the students can play over and over.  I use erasers and plastic spiders from the Dollar Store.  Here are some of the games we like to play in my class: Zero Wins Player A takes 10 pumpkin erasers and places them on the pumpkin and Player B takes 10 ghost erasers and places them on the ghost. Each player, in turn, spins the spinner and does what it says.  For example, if Player A spins “get 2”, Player A must take 2 ghost erasers and put them with their pumpkin erasers.  If Player B spins “lose 3”, Player B gives 3 of the ghost erasers to Player A.  The first player to end up with zero erasers wins. Last year for Thanksgiving, I wanted a game that the kids could easily play and have fun.  So I bought a big styrofoam ball and a bag of feathers from Dollarama and printed out a picture of a turkey.  I taped the turkey on the front and stuck the feathers in.  The students had to take turns rolling a die and take that amount of feathers out of the turkey.  Once all the feathers were gone, the students had to count how many feathers they each had and the student with the most feathers won.  Then the students placed the feathers back into the turkey and played again.   So this year, I decided to take this idea one step further and created feathers (which I laminated) with numbers and pictures of either one die or two dice.  And the game pretty much stays the same in that kids take turns rolling either one die or two dice and either take that amount of feathers or take the feather with that number/die/dice on it.  I hot glue gunned Q-tip...

Last March I created my Geometry fans that would be an assessment tool for me and just geometry fun for the kids.  My students LOVED using the fans with each other and at math centers.  So this year I have come up with number sense fans with a variety of numbers, dice and base 10 materials on each fan.  I am very excited to use this resource all year in my classroom.  I created small and bigger fans this year too.   This resource has been developed as a teaching tool and resource you and your students can use together or separately. These fans would be a great way to build number sense and operation sense with your students.  Students can use these fans as a reference when working on their math or at centres or with a partner. The fans are a great assessment tool for the teacher to quickly assess each student’s knowledge of number sense or operation sense.
