Mimio Scrambled Sight Word Puzzles

Image
I started to do sight word puzzles in January with my students every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during our morning meeting.  My students would bring a white board, marker and eraser down to our meeting area and would record their answers on the white board.  The first set of puzzles I did were to scramble the sight words I had already introduced.  I scrambled six sight words for Monday, six for Wednesday and six for Friday.  I would show the scrambled word and give the students a few minutes to try to figure out what sight word it was.  They would then write their “guess” on their recording sheet and then I would show them the answer to see if they got it right.  I would then move on to the next word  and do the same thing for the next five words.  I would give students some hints if I saw them struggling or point out some letter patters (ie., if you see to ee’s they may go together).  The students really looked forward to the puzzles and l...

Caterpillar/Butterfly Journal

For the past 3 years I have been doing Butterflies in my classroom for the Living Things Unit.  I really liked my plant journal I created a few years back for my little primaries to record their observations so I decided to start to create a journal just like my plant journal but for caterpillars/butterflies.  I had one that I made last year but felt it needed some adjustments so I decided to wait until this year when I did the butterflies and really focus on what I wanted my little primaries to record.  End result...I have a new caterpillar/butterfly journal!!! I have put this journal in my TPT store at the following link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Caterpillar-and-Butterfly-Journal-2634069 Enjoy! Kemble :-)

Morning Calendar Work for French Immersion

I still work in a dual track school with English and French Immersion programs (I teach English) and some of my colleagues on the French side really liked my Morning Calendar routine/duotang (for a refresher on my Morning Calendar routine go to  http://primaryflynn.blogspot.ca/search/label/Morning%20Calendar%20Work ).  This year I worked on creating the same Morning Calendar that I use but in French.  And it is now complete.  I like to create things that last for a bit so my Morning Calendar is always for 4 years up to a leap year so I don't forget the leap year.   I have now add the Morning Calendar for French Immersion in my TPT store at the following link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Morning-Calendar-Work-for-French-Immersion-2633788 Enjoy! Daily Sight Word Work with Mimio and PowerPoint

Image
Last year I started using my Mimio Bar in my classroom all the time and it totally changed my teaching and the excitement in my students.  One of my favourite things I did last year and continued this year was my weekly sight word work in my morning meeting.  When my students come in first thing in the morning, their Morning Calendar duotang is on their desk and they have to colour in the day and weather.  Then they come down to the meeting area for our morning meeting.  My morning meeting consists of one student being allowed to sit on the bench and invite another student to be on the bench with them, 2 students share news with the class, we read the morning message I have written to the students, we do 2 poems weekly and weekly sight word work.   I introduce 4 new sight words per week and work on those words all week with different activities including this mimio activity.  Because the students have been sitting for a bit for the morning meeting, when w...

Summer 2016!!

Image
Where did the time go?  I cannot believe another school year has come and go and it's summer again.  I say this every year.  I don't know how some teachers keep up their blogs as I just couldn't.  This year was especially busy as I was helping out in the office once a week, our principal was retiring so we were getting things made, working on surprises plus teaching!!!  I am excited to put some final touches on some new things I created for the classroom this year that I felt really helped my students with their sight words.   I am also a Google Level One Educator!!   I am currently studying the units so I can take the exam to become a Google Level Two Educator.  My school has really put a tremendous effort in to bringing in technology and using it properly for the students.  I used some great apps in the classroom and am excited to share those with you.  I am a Samsung user (android) and it was really exciting to see my students...
