Class Art Project

The PTG has worked very hard the past 2 years to fund raise for a new playground for our school.  They held an auction each year.  This year they asked each class to do a class art project that they could auction off.  The pieces were amazing.  My class did a large version of Kandinsky circles using yarn.  Here is a picture of the piece not finished...

Each student got a square and I drew the circles on in pencil to guide the students.  The students came down and I put the glue on and they put the yarn on.  They got to pick what colours they wanted.  Here is the finished product...

Here are some of the other amazing projects the other classrooms did.

"Sailing Away" - Groups of children worked on parts of the collage - the sea, the sky, the sails, the boats - and every child cut out their own star. A constellation map is on the back of the piece so you can find your child's star. The piece was signed on the back by the whole class.

"It Takes a Village" - Each child created a house and trees to use in their village collage. The piece was signed on the back by the whole class.

"Our Faces" - Students gazed at their faces in small mirrors and then drew their self-portraits. The back of the piece has been signed by the whole class and includes a map of who's who.

"Fun in the Sun" - Groups of students worked on different parts of this collage. Some painted the sky, some the ocean, some created the patterns for the beach umbrellas & sailboats, and some glued the sand to the beach. The back of the piece has been signed by the whole class.

"Rue Boudreau" - Beautiful mixed media collage row of houses & castles on reclaimed wood. Children worked in pairs to create a truly one-of-a kind piece of art.

"Our Halifax" - Each student painted a building along the Halifax waterfront. The class voted on a design & painted the background. The piece is 3D, made of wood, varnished, and signed by the whole class.

"Magical Tree Rings" - Students each selected a cross-section of a branch and painted the tree rings visible within their piece of wood. The 27 little works of art have been given a glossy finish and were mounted on a piece of plywood that has been painted black. The back of the piece has been signed by the whole class.

"Soaring Above" - Paper collage of dragonflies created by the students, each as different as the artists themselves. Signed on the back by the whole class.

"100 Hearts" - The students designed 100 tiny heart pictures, each one as unique & creative as the young artists who created them. The piece is signed by the whole class.

Set of 4 dessert-size fish plates designed by the teahcer and painted and signed by the class.

14 inch pizza plate designed, painted & signed by the whole class

Fingerprint bug patio table - The class took turns painting the patio table a grassy green and then created fingerprint bugs to decorate the table.

"Handprint planter" - Students painted their handprints all over a large wooden planter and signed their names next to their handprints. The planter is made of pine and has been varnished to withstand the elements.

NS artist Bob Campbell created, glazed & fired a platter for this special class. The teacher came up with the geometric design and the students took turns painting the coloured squares & rectangles. The whole class signed the back of the piece.

"Ladybug Chair" - Students took turns painting a child-sized Adirondack chair blue and then used their thumbprints to create ladybugs all over the chair. The teacher painted the leaves & grass. The children signed their names on the underside of the chair.

"Dove" - Each child chose a colour and the class used their fingerprints to create a beautiful multi-coloured dove. The piece was signed by each of the artists next to their chosen colour.

Maybe one of the above projects will give you an idea for a class project.

Enjoy!
