Ultimate Dot Paper Plate Collection
As I said in an earlier post, anyone who teaches grade Primary to Grade Three in
Nova Scotia will be executing a new math curriculum. And one of the big ideas is subitizing which is the ability to recognize at a glance a quantity of objects without counting. Dot paper plates are always used but I find they take up so much space. So I wanted to create something that didn't really take up that much space and that I could laminate (which I love doing) so it would last and be protected especially in a primary classroom. This is just like my new five frame paper plate product but this product has various dot arrangements on a picture of a paper plate.
This
product has various dot combinations of the numbers 1 – 5 on a picture of a
paper plate which you can print on cardstock and laminate. I like to print the dot paper plates on both
sides of the cardstock to save paper and be more efficient.
I
came up with the following dot plate combinations to use throughout the
product:
For
the number 1, two different placements of the dot
For
the number 2, four different placements of the dots
For
the number 3, six different placements of the dots
For
the number 4, eight different placements of the dots
For
the number 5, ten different placements of the dots
With
the above dot plate combinations, I created many different slides that I can
use in mental math or centers or whole group or small group instruction to use
to help the students with the concept of subitizing.
This product includes the
following:
-21
suggested activities
-Pictures
of blank paper plates
-2 plates side by side
-1 big plate
-3 plates
-Individual
dot plates with the different dot combinations for the numbers 1 to 5
-Dot
Plate Fans
-Dot
Plate Cards (can be used for concentration or to create decks of cards)
-Various
Dot Plate cards
-2 plates per sheet (one has different dot
arrangements and 1 is blank.
-2 plates per sheet (each plate has a dot
arrangement so students can talk about which one is one more or one less)
-3 plates per sheet (2 plates with same
number but different dot arrangements and third plate with different number)
-4 plates per sheet (3 plates with same
number but different dot arrangements and fourth plate with different number)
This product covers the new NS Grade Primary Outcome N02: Students will be expected to recognize at a glance, and name the quantity represented by familiar arrangements of 1 to 5 objects or dots. The Common Core equivalent outcome is Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g, by using matching and counting strategies.
I am really excited to use it this year with the new math curriculum.
