Summer
I don't know about any of you but I can and cannot believe this is the first post I have done since February!! I'm new to blogging and I guess I need to make a goal of writing in my blog at least once a week especially during the school year.
The last few months of school were so busy with learning a new math curriculum for the upcoming 2013-2014 school year and other PD sessions and meetings and teaching and packing up the classroom, assessing the students, writing report cards, etc, etc, etc that the blog took a back seat...my apologies.
I had a few late nights near the end in June trying to clean and organize the classroom so it would be easier to pack up at the end of June and unpack in August. So behind my desk is an awesome book shelf and beside my desk is some cabinets and other shelving and this was just a mess...especially my construction paper and card stock. I always had trouble getting at the paper and the colours were mixed in together. It was very frustrating. So I would go home to let the dog out and have supper and then head back to school for a couple of ours. I always say I want to find the perfect system (as the other teachers laugh at me) of keeping my binders and everything else. Maybe I will finally find it the year I retire (which is waaaay off) but every year I do find something that does help with my organizing which I think is a good thing.
So for my paper, I bought a dish rack from Walmart to hold my cardstock.
I liked it but I wasn't in love with it when I put it underneath where I keep my paper. I forgot to take pictures but I decided to put my themed word walls for my mini-offices in the dish rack instead and I loved it. I will take a picture of it in August and post it then. So I still had to find a solution for my paper and it was actually magazine holders from Dollarama that provided the solution. Again, I forgot to take pictures but there are two ways you can have the magazine holders...tall or short. I turned the magazine holders short and fit the paper in. IT WAS PERFECT. I had a few of the holders and put them side by side and put my paper in. Now I can slide the paper out without any problems. Again, I will post pictures in August. For now, here are a few pictures of the underneath shelves I use and my containers.
I love clear containers and Canadian Tire have some great ones especially when they are on sale. I go every few weeks just to check if they are on sale.
On the other side of my classroom, I have another large book shelf that I keep my math and center materials. I had these great little containers from Dollarama that were actually microwave containers (10 came in a package) that I used to store some materials. But now that I have discovered the little containers from Canadian Tire, I am replacing the Dollarama ones with those. Here are a few pictures of the shelf and the containers. My goal in August is to make some nice labels and organize the materials a little better.
The last little thing I always had an issue with was what to do with my art samples...especially the big ones. I'm sure everyone else may have thought of this or have a better idea (please send it along) but here is what I did for the time being...
So my goal will be to update at least once a week with school ideas and info on some new TPT/Teacher's Notebook products that I am working on.
I hope everyone is having an excellent and safe summer!
Enjoy!
