Teacher Week 2013 Teacher Tips
Well, this is the last day of Teacher Week 2013 and it has been so much fun participating and reading all the blog entries.
I just signed up for Reminde101 and just sent an e-mail to some other teachers about it. I am so excited to try it out this year as one way to communicate with my parents. Thanks for the tip!! Here are some of my tips..
Snow Suits and Recess
One teacher tip I have is for teachers who teach where it snows and with little ones. Recess was always a struggle. Some of the little ones devour their food, others are the slowest eaters and then they have to put on their snow suits. By the time, I finished helping the last student get ready for outside, there was about 2 minutes left of recess. One day I finally had enough and asked the kids to go to the washroom first, then put their boots and snow pants on and then eat their snacks. The kids never mind sitting with their boots and snow pants on because by the time it is recess, their boots and snow pants are dry from the morning. So once they finish eating, they just have to put their coat, mitts and hat on. I am able to help with boots if needed and then I am just on zipper and mitts duty. It saves so much time and the kids realize they need to put their boots and snow pants on quick so they can get at their recess. And if the office makes the call that it is an indoor recess because it is too cold out and the kids have their boots and snow pants on...well, let me tell you, they come off really fast so they can play.
Using Flyers in the classroom
I have a blogged about using flyers before with the little ones. I love using flyers in the classroom and having students find numbers and colours in them but I always found they had such a hard time folding them back or cutting into them so I finally thought about cutting them up into smaller squares so they would be easier for my little students' hands.
1st Day of School
We are a bus school so some of the primary students are bused. The first day is very busy and most times there are some tears so I put up some chart paper outside my door with the kids names in one column and the second column is for where they are going after school. So while I am dealing the students, my parents are able to write down where their child goes after school when they leave. I don't have to stress about this right away and at recess I can organize myself a little more and know where they go.
I also make sure I have large ziplocks with each of my student's names on them for the extra school supplies that come in. This makes it so much easier when I organize the supplies after school on that first day.
I will add more tips as I think of them.
Thank you to all the teachers who have visited my blog and have taken the time to read it! Much appreciated.
Enjoy!
