Wishlist

In my last post, I showed you my new cart I purchased for centers.  That got me to thinking about some other carts and desk top organizers I have seen in ebay that I think would be great in the classroom.  Here are a few pictures of some of the things I have found.  


 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 








What kind of organizers do you use in your classroom that help you?  I would love to know.  One of my goals this upcoming year is to try to make my desk functional and organized which would then hopefully help in keeping it clean!!!  Once I get back into the classroom, I will post pictures of my desk.

    I bought the drawers in five colours that you are showing above but in a single row. I got the organizer on sale at Michael's with a 20% off coupon plus the 15% teacher discount for $20! I plan on putting my photocopies, materials for lessons in the drawers. RED for Monday, Orange for Tuesday, Green Wednesday, Blue Thursday and Purple Friday. There are two 8 1/2 by 11 drawers in each colour. I am going to label the front of the drawers with the days of the week and store it beside my desk. I hope it helps keep me more organized! I have a thousand coloured baskets everywhere at the moment!

    I have that one too and I made weekday labels for the top five drawers. I still have not really made a decision on what or how to make the bottom 5 drawers useful to me. I have this cart right behind my desk.I'm thinking I will label the other drawers with Math, Science, Social Studies, Health and Language Arts and put photocopies needed for the next couple of weeks. Then when I change up the other bins for the following week, I just have to grab the photocopies from the bottom drawers.

Plant Journal Revisted with a New Addition Bean Greenhouse Activity

Hello,  I cannot believe I uploaded my plant journal in 2012!!!  I have been using this plant journal with my students for 12 years!!! My students still get excited when they get their journal and investigate their plant growth.   For the past two years I have started the Bean Greenhouses where my students put a few beans in wet cotton balls, place them in a ziploc and we put them on the window and watch them grow.  This year I have created a quick journal for my students to observe their observations.  I always give 3 beans to each student because the ziploc is rather small for any more.  This year my students will be able to get their Bean Greenhouse journal, put down what day it is of growing and then colour in what stage they see their beans. Blank Game Boards

Every year, no matter what grade level I am teaching, I end the year with the students making a game they can play at school and then take it home to play with their family.   And every year it seems I am scrambling to put the materials together for the students.   I have found the younger students really need something concrete they can use.   I came up with these pre-made template.   I made templates without spinners, with different types of spinners and with places for cards.   I have all the templates in a binder in clear plastic protectors and I get the students to pick which template they want the day before we do the activity so I can have the templates ready for the kids.   I also have pre-made squares with various game standards such as “Miss a turn” and Go back 2 spaces” the kids can cut out and glue on the squares they want.   There are also blank squares they can print on to customize their game.   I also give the students a template to help with the writing of their direc

Teacher Week 2013 Classroom Management

Hi everyone,  I have to say, I'm really enjoying this Teacher Week 2013. It's my first time participating in something like this.  Now on to classroom management. All schools in the Halifax Regional School Board uses Positive Effective Behaviour Supports (PEBS).  This is a school-wide system of support that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviours.  It looks at what our students can do and are doing rather than what they shouldn't do and how we as adults interact with them.  Each student receives a PEBS matrix (a gird) to take home and review with their parents and a PEBS matrix is up in every classroom and teachers routinely refer to the PEBS matrix. We also use Gems with the whole school.  Gems are awarded to students who demonstrate positive behaviours as outlined in the PEBS matrix.  Each class has their own jar into which students deposit gems as they receive them.  Each class decides on a class goal
